Barbados Christmas Catamaran Cruise

Barbados catamaran cruise under the full moon

Barbados catamaran cruise under the full moon

We boarded the privately booked cat at 5:30 at the harbor, sailed into the sunset, had dinner aboard just outside Sandy Lane on the west coast of the island, then (a bit drunkenly) sang Christmas carols on the sail back.  A fabulous evening, much merriment. I’ve been having trouble getting into the Christmas spirit in this tropical climate … did singing carols help? Maybe. Maybe more if I’d worn a Santa hat.

Another cat sailing

Cheers, other cat!

The more you drink, the merrier you feel…old Barbadian saying.

  2. I overheard someone on the cruise say, “Everybody should believe in something; I believe I’ll have another drink.” Deep, but I don’t think it’s Bajan.

What will you get into next? I wait with baited breathe. Blog on sister,
    I’ll start stopping in. Cynthia

Getting into the Christmas spirit is in the Yuletile traditions.

The Christmas spirit for us is about taking the house apart, painting, hanging new curtains, new cushion covers, shopping, green peas, making stuffing for the turkey, Jug Jug, Sorrel and black cake

We also dress up for mid-night mass or early morning service and of course go to Queens Park afterwards for Christmas in the park.

So you have to get use to doing Christmas a little different and the spirit will come

  5. Thanks for this, Hammer. Having been here two Christmases now, I notice that so many people paint the exterior of their homes – I love that! People here take a lot of pride in their homes’ appearance.

You should explain what JugJug and Sorrel and green peas are … a real Bajan should do that, not a Yank! Gotta say, the food is YUM!

I suspect by my third Christmas, the spirit will come. Thanks for your good wishes!
