This morning's view from Apt #8 at St Lawrence Beach Condos, Barbados, in the heart of the lively St Lawrence Gap. I took this from the outdoor patio.
Good morning! I’m hugely interested in living spaces – what they look like, what might be done with them to make them pretty and livable – and I adore transforming them from “drab” to “fab” … without spending ridiculous amounts of money. Here’s a peek at my current project.
I’m in the process of getting Apt #8 at St Lawrence Beach Condos in shape for rental; it’s a two-bedroom, two-bathroom condo on the 2nd floor (3rd floor from the back of the building). Appliances and AC should be in this week (patience, Jane, patience…. this is the Caribbean, remember). It was painted a couple of days ago (do you like the color? It works for me but maybe it’s too bold for other people, I don’t know …). Furniture is being delivered Tuesday.
Funny. I ponder the colors, the placement of things, what I’ll add to dress the place up, etc etc. Then I look outside and have to laugh at myself for obsessing … Nature has this process down pat!
I’ll keep you posted; I sure can’t compete with nature. I can only hope to complement and pay my respects to the perfection of Barbados’ natural beauty.
Have a great day
Hi B.F.F.
I think the color you chose is beautiful. When I think of the tropics bold colors seem to go hand in hand with the bold colors of the ocean and greenery. Have fun decorating.
cheers edie
Thanks, Edie. You’re so right – we associate the Caribbean with particular colors; when we look at nature it’s easy to see what inspired those colors and their intensity. I’ll let you know how it goes …
Yesterday it didn’t go well. Two electricians showed up unexpectedly to install ceiling fans; they didn’t like me questioning them about who sent them etc and were blatantly rude to me the entire time they were in the apartment, including one of them accidentally-on-purpose bumping into me. (How dare someone (a foreign woman yet!) ask questions of them!)
Today will be better. Dwellings and Walkers World have ace delivery people – so helpful, kind, and efficient.
I LOVE this color. So homey and bright! I want to paint my living room the exact same!
Good morning, Kerry. I have some experience in the paint department in Barbados through my home staging work. There are two paint companies in Barbados. I’ve found that Harris offers far more interesting color options than Berger. The color I used in the living room of our “One Love” suite at St Lawrence Condominiums is, I believe, “pawpaw.” If you’re serious about wanting the exact name of the color, please e-mail me at PlanetBarbados@gmail.com and I’ll investigate it for you. I also absolutely love this color and find it complements the rich aquas of the sea outdoors.
